After a successful career in PR and marketing in London, I moved to Cornwall in the early 1990s and co-founded Orca Publications, publishers of the surfing magazines Carve, SurfGirl and ThreeSixty.

At the time there were only a handful of photographers shooting surfing in the UK, so I taught myself surf photography. I went on to become a senior photographer for the magazines, travelling to Hawaii and other locations around the world. My work appeared in international surf publications as well as national media in the UK.

Alongside surf photography I also shot fashion, portrait, product and lifestyle work. When we expanded into cookery book publishing in the early 2000s, I found myself photographing dishes on the west coast of Ireland for the Surf Café Cookbook, which went on to spawn two further editions.

That’s when I realised how much I enjoyed photographing food. It doesn’t move as fast as a surfer on a wave, and it doesn’t involve standing on a windswept Cornish beach for hours waiting for the right moment.

So in 2013 I left publishing to focus fully on commercial photography in Cornwall.

Today I specialise in food, drink, product and interior photography for brands and businesses across Cornwall and beyond, creating images that help products, spaces and businesses look their very best.

Since then I’ve worked with more than 150 organisations, from local businesses to national and international brands. One highlight was being commissioned by the United Nations FAO to produce photography for the International Year of Pulses.

What I enjoy most about this work is the challenge of creating a strong image. Shaping the light so it feels natural and balanced. Finding an angle that feels fresh. Using colour, texture and composition to create photographs that tell a story and connect with an audience.

In short, visual storytelling is what I love.
